  • Combat Report - Entrapment on the Icelace Lake

    Mission:

    Neutralize enemy agent known as the Unreal.

    Outcome:

    By allowing, through arcane memory editing, false information on the location of the PDCDS the Unreal was baited into attacking the Wisp, the vessel of Lieutenant George Longcloak. After a difficult battle, the Unreal was defeated and slain with only moderate damage to the Wisp.

    Orders arising:

    • With the destruction of the Unreal, True Sight based verification of identities of high ranking personnel is now considered effective once again.

    • The artefact used by the Unreal to evade divination has been placed in a Cerulean facility to prevent further abuse of this dangerous arcana by our enemies.

    • The remains of the Unreal are to be disintegrated.

    • The PDCDS has been placed in a Cerulean facility until such time as it can be properly disposed of as illegal and dangerous necromantic artefacts.

    • Use of the PDCDS against members of the Dark Visage may now be considered a potential option by High Command to ensure complete destruction of the enemy.

    Commendations:

    • Lieutenant George Longcloak - Provision of and able captaining of the Wisp was integral to the success of this high risk operation.

    • Berlinne Toews - The cooperation of Berlinne Toews and her associates was absolutely critical in not only the recovery of the PDCDS, but also the overall strategem which achieved total defeat and destruction of the Unreal.

  • Combat Report - Battle under 42 Birch Street

    Mission:

    Raid possible Doppelganger base of operations on 42 Birch Street.

    Outcome:

    Entry into 42 Birch Street was impeded by magical wards of a most potent nature, which on triggering potentially caused enemy retreat. Upon entry to residence, a secret passage behind an illusiary wall was uncovered, leading to the expected doppelganger base of operations. Enemy assets were examined & siezed, before an additional passageway to the Underdark was located. Enemy was pursued through this passageway but eluded capture.

    During pursuit, forces were ambushed by hostile scouting party of Drow. Ambush was repulsed, and underdark passage was determined to be a major security risk and subsequently destroyed.

    Orders arising:

    • Ashes returned from the enemy base transmitted to the Archangels to confirm if human remains, and if so attempt resurrection of potential Kingsguard KIA.

    • Potential PDCDS recovered from the scene transferred to Cerulean custody for further testing.

    Commendations:

    • Aoth Sepret - The Elder Druid's elemental mastery ensured our enemies may take no further advantage of an underdark passageway to the heart of the Jewel.

    • Mortis - The Kelemvorite Monk took charge of recovery and proper burial of additional victims remains, at personal cost & risk.

  • Combat Report - Battle of Wayfarer's Bridge

    Mission:

    Eliminate the bandit operations of Lucy Rhodes in the Giantspire mountains and surrounding forests in the vicinity of the Crecheforge ruins.

    Outcome:

    A successful false-flag operation caused the enemy to deploy their primary defenses to the north, whereas we ultimately launched a successful attack from the south. A covert crossing bypassed a fortified bridge held by the enemy, allowing us to take their main encampment entirely by surprise, while our secondary force simultaneously secured said bridge, preventing an easy retreat and maximizing enemy casualties.

    Orders arising:

    • A small facility containing magical errata was captured from the enemy, though they attempted (with some success) to destroy evidence of their purpose there. Fifth Star Jonni Aelthasson will facilitate an investigation of this facility.

    • The traitor Lucy Rhodes escaped capture yet again; Far Scout Commander Gaper will make tracking her next moves a high priority

    Commendations:

    • Chea Allin - This Cerulean provided crucial logistical and tactical support throughout the mission, ensuring we were able to successfully take our foe by surprise.

  • Combat Report - Battle of Frobrook

    Mission:

    Sergeant Longcloak obtained vital intelligence on a recent attack by bandit forces loyal to Leslie Fim against the hamlet of Frobrook. We determined to visit the area and investigate our elusive foe's actions and interview survivors, with a view to gaining insight into the enemy's military disposition.

    Outcome:

    We found the hamlet of Frobrook to have been entirely massacred by Leslie Fim's forces, and buried in a mass grave. Fim then partially repopulated the hamlet with enough vagabonds from the surrounding countryside to provide logs and labour for him, rendering them loyal with promise of food and shelter.

    One of said vagabonds covertly alerted Fim's subordinate, Former Captain Lucy Rhodes, to our presence, and she gave battle just outside the town. Despite being heavily outnumbered, we repulsed the attack in good order, and Rhodes used a landslide to cover her retreat. It should also be noted Rhodes' forces slew many of the vagabonds they were theoretically allied with, likely once she realised the town would no longer be a viable source of lumber.

    Orders arising:

    • Several vagabonds who survived the battle were offered shelter by Councillor Underhill due to having nowhere to go

    • These wretches were not directly complicit in Rhodes' ambush or the original massacre, so I have sponsored their citizenship that they can better avail of Councillor Underhill's mercy

    • Fim's decidedly anti-Peltarch false-narrative will likely blame the Jewel for the original massacre and ultimate destruction of the town. A true account, as witnessed by the vagabond survivors who were fed with false promises, will be collected and published by Councillor Underhill's Advisor and distributed in the areas Fim's forces are most active.

    Additional Detail as Requested:

    Ordinarily, I would not include a personal disagreement with little mission relevance in these reports, but on this occasion my superior officer has specifically requested that I do so.

    • During the mission, I saw fit to execute the vagabond collaborator who had summoned Fim's forces and had been complicit in working with the enemy.

    • Captain Tiller objected to this, for reasons I cannot pretend to understand, and subsequently became hysterical and combative.

    • While the situation thankfully did not come to blows, I recommend Captain Tiller be examined by healers, as in my opinion the strain of command has rendered her unpredictable and erratic.

    Commendations:

    • George Longcloak - the marine Sergeant took the initiative on this mission to pursue viable intelligence, and thanks to this we have much, much more information on Fim than we had previously, particularly that Rhodes is now riding with him.

  • Combat Report - Liberation of Portown

    Operation Bald Eagle - Phase One

    The opening moves of our Campaign, objectives include regaining Portown, dealing a decisive defeat to its occupying force and gaining intelligence, supplies and manpower necessary for phase two.

    Background:

    Portown is the largest fishing town under Peltarch's control. Due to the increasingly commercial use of Peltarch's docks, much fishing activity previously conducted within the city proper has moved to the well positioned township. With a natural harbour, good farmland, and positioned within easy logistical distance of nearby logging operations, the bustling town's loss to bandit forces has robbed Peltarch of vital secondary food sources.

    Outcome:

    A feint attack via the lake allowed infantry to conduct an assault on the township's walls & gate, while a successful landing allowed a small elite force to secure enslaved citizens, and force the enemy to fight on two fronts. This led to a steady attritional loss of forces until the enemy was no longer capable of resistance.

    Mission Accomplished.

    Orders arising:

    • Bandit Chief Markon is to be held in military holding facilities until he has been put to the question, following which he is to face public execution for his trespasses against the Jewel

    • Recruitment efforts should be redoubled arising from the successful liberation and aftermath; all recruits will be divided evenly between Defender regiments

    • Special consideration is to be given to Cerulean Knight recruitment; any candidates deemed appropriately skilled by a Cerulean recruitment officer are to be first offered service with the Knights of the Cerulean Stars

    Commendations:

    • Jonni Aelthasson - initial scrying of the objective allowed us the foreknowledge to employ tactical flexibility once enagaged, enabling the saving of many civilian lives who may otherwise have perished to the enemy

    • Salin Ashald VI - competent deployment, and subsequent management of, communication magicks enabled the multi-pronged attack forces to maintain close coordination without which, once again, multiple civilian casualties would have ensued

    • Varya Tiller - competence and restraint in battle leading to the successful escort of 93% of civilian noncombatants, a remarkably high figure given the foe's deliberate and ruthless efforts to specifically target these individuals

  • Combat Report - War of Purification

    Incident:

    Large scale invasion of the Nars Pass by Kossuthan raiders of the so-called 'Black General'.

    Outcome:

    Overall inconclusive. Many Kossuthan raids were disrupted by myself, Lady Tiller and Advisor Calchis as we journeyed north from the Crossroads to the Jewel. Presumably many raiders whom we did not chance upon were successful in their goal, which appears to have been simply to set as much of the Pass and anyone in it alight as possible.

    We successfully secured the Tiller Barony's farmlands with minimal damage to their harvest. At least one man in Defender armour was discovered among the bodies of the enemy forces, suggesting an attempted infiltration or other subterfuge.

    Orders arising:

    • Far Scout Coyote is ordered to provide a full disposition report on everything we currently know about the enemy forces and how they were able to encroach upon the Nars Pass in such numbers without prior warning

    • Far Scout Commander Gaper will assemble a list of all known worshippers and clergy of Kossuth currently resident within Peltarch

    • Captain Lucy Rhodes will inspect the body or bodies of the fallen foes who were found to be wearing Defender armour and identify them, as her troops were deployed to the Tiller Barony at the time of the attack - if there are infiltrators, their insurrection will be purged in the cradle

    • Garrisons at the Western and Southern walls are placed on Dragon Alert; though the enemies don't seem to count dragons among their numbers (thus far!), their use of Kossuthan priests and Fire Giants can quickly cause a conflaguration, so bucket chains are to be readied, and all thatching adjacent to the walls is to be doused regularly with lakewater

    • Civilians must be advised to prioritize riverboat travel where possible, or travel in heavily guarded caravan only until further notice

    Commendations:

    • Ravos Calchis & Varya Tiller - Though civilians, both citizens displayed their loyalty to their country and their city, making no hesitation in taking the fight to these new foes up and down the length of the Nars Pass.

  • Special Investigation - Conclusion

    Mission:

    By Royal command: Eliminate insurrectionist conspiracy leader "Smoke", for untold crimes against the Jewel and her people.

    Outcome:

    Smoke was defeated and slain in his home, in the Cinderwood forest of the Elemental Demi-plane of Smoke.

    Orders arising:

    • Alice Dardoch, aka former Far Scout "Treys" is to be publicly executed for her crimes against Peltarch
    • Gorien Harbottle will provide Reyhenna Jorino with the mortal remains of [REDACTED], in accordance with previous agreements
    • The Royal Taskforce to Rout Anti-Monarchist Conspirators will indefinitely suspend all operations, its main objectives successfully completed

    Commendations:

    • Vick Blake - With this mission, Commander Blake has proven his superiority to his erstwhile peer, Smoke, as a Scout, a Commander, a Logistician and as a Citizen. As there is no obvious promotion within the Defenders to which I can recommend the Commander, I instead recommend his prompt ennoblement by HRM George I, in gratitude for services to his King and homeland.

    • Erurk Hurgenpox - Along with Commander Blake, Erurk has been the partner of our labours against the treachery that has beset our city. I commend Baron Tiller for his swift induction into the Kingsguard, where I have no doubt he will serve with distinction despite the difficulty of his charges.

    • Jonni Aelthasson & Berlinne Toews - I recommend their prompt promotion to the rank of Fifth Star Knights of the Cerulean Stars, for unrelenting valour in the service of the Jewel, overcoming grave personal adversities in the process.

    • Autumn - I recommend her prompt promotion to the rank of Lieutenant, once such a position in her unit becomes available, for her unflinching and loyal service to her City throughout calamitous times, plus she also nailed one really spectacular shot against one of Smoke's deadliest artifacts without which I have little doubt I would not have the pleasure of writing this report.

    • Scott Grimm - I recommend his prompt promotion to the rank of Captain should such a position become available, due to his continuing valour in the face of the Jewel's many enemies, time and again offering death to Peltarch's enemies.

    • Civilians and Adventurers - As has been the case throughout the period of operations of this Royal Taskforce, our efforts have been continuously supported and bolstered by the contributions of prominent citizens and friends of the Jewel, all of whom I commend to his Majesty's good graces.

    By Royal command: Investigate and bring to justice the malign forces behind the 'blowgun attack' on HRM George I & son.

    Outcome:

    Assassin successfully captured. Cell of Eldreth Veluuthra terrorists exterminated. Simulacrum of enemy leader captured.

    Orders arising:

    • URGENT: ALL SERVANTS, STAFF & ATTENDANTS OF HRM GEORGE I & HOUSEHOLD MUST HAVE CLARITY & DISPEL MAGIC CAST UPON THEM BY CERULEAN KNIGHTS AT START OF EVERY SHIFT OF SERVICE

    • [REDACTED] is to be tailed at all times by Far Scouts, as assigned by Commander Blake

    Commendations:

    • Vick Blake - successful apprehension of the assassin during their attempt on the King's life, undoubtedly saving HRM's life

    • Jonni Aelthasson - expert advice and assistance in securing the assassin and preventing further attempts on her life

  • The Capture of Douglas Latch, Traitor to the Jewel

    Mission:

    By Royal command: Capture or destroy Smoke's remaining anti-monarchist forces.

    Outcome:

    Former Cerulean Knight Douglas Latch captured and imprisoned.

    Additional Notes:

    • Only members of Taskforce Gale, or those approved by same, may interrogate or otherwise interact with Douglas Latch

    • Recommend commendation for valorous service for Cerulean Knight Berlinne Teows for successfully locating and effecting infiltration of the enemy's hideout

    • Douglas Latch has requested commutation of sentence for his crimes of ten years hard labour followed by exile; this request is supported by the Taskforce under the understanding that the specifics of hard labour the prisoner should serve should be dictated by the Taskforce until the sentence is concluded or the prisoner has expired

    Mission:

    By Royal command: Assume complete control of the Crown response to the 'Autonomist' activities within Peltarch.

    Special Orders to the Guard:

    1. Cease any investigations into persons not suspected of engaging in or planning armed/violent acts of rebellion, or conspiring to accommodate same

    2. All arrests of individuals relating to the Autonomists must be personally approved by Reyhenna Jorino, Vick Blake or Erurk Hurgenpox

    3. Continued surveillance of individuals of interest, i.e. with links to Arch Weyland, rogue Far Scout Smoke or other known armed insurgents is permitted in co-ordination with Vick Blake's Far Scouts & Gorien Harbottle's team in the Knights of the Cerulean Stars

    1. Any individuals found to be distributing or in possession of Arch Weyland's flag: a blue flag that depicts a circle with several other circles around it, in any form, should have the offending document confiscated but should otherwise be allowed to go about their business

    1. All divisions must remain vigilant for several outstanding insurgents who were associated with Arch Weyland & rogue Far Scout Smoke, in addition to surviving forces they may yet be able to muster (a significant number of Far Scouts escaped the hammer blow at Weyland's base and must be assumed to retain full operational capacity)

    2. All major military operations outside standard duties must be approved by Reyhenna Jorino or Vick Blake until further notice

    Mission:

    By Royal command: Rout the anti-monarchist forces and arrest or eliminate their leaders.

    Outcome:

    Mission accomplished.

    • Recommend royal commutation of death to life in prison for Oscar Halbrook

    • Recommend demotion to Sergeant for Gom, serving in Sally William's division

    • Recommend Alice Dardoch remain in extremely secure custody until her erstwhile master Smoke is eliminated

    • Recommend Arch Weyland is tried for Treason by Court Martial publicly and without delay

    • Recommend continued efforts to locate and eliminate Smoke & his renegade Far Scouts by any means necessary

    • Vick Blake's organisation and tenacity ensured the conspirators were a step behind us at all times

    • Morgan Azzen placed life and limb on the line for his city, fighting on through grievous bodily harm including death

    • Gorien Harbottle likewise risked his life to enable our surprise assault on the traitors' hideout

    • Gerard Fortescue was instrumental in efforts to expunge the traitorous elements from the City proper

  • The End of the Silver Host

    Mission:

    Kill the Seer and 'Truthspeaker' of the Silver Host, Vere.

    Outcome:

    Mission accomplished.

    Additional notes:

    • Unknown: Who opened the rifts which enabled the Fire Genie and his host of Salamanders to assault the defenceless villages?

    • Unknown: Who slew the remnant forces of the Silver host, including Robert Holmsmeade, as they retreated from Narfell?

    • Speculation: The distraction caused by the rifts and Salamanders is what made the mission possible to begin with. This has implications which I have made clear to my commanders, but I am unconvinced will be acted on appropriately.

    Commendations:

    • Defender Autumn acquitted herself with valour

    • Defender Haltrude ensured, with help from adventurers present, the survival of Captain Gom

    • Far Scout Merlynna carried out our mission with marked efficiency

    • Lieutenant Grimm stuck the killing blow at a critical moment, preventing the foe from doing untold further harm
