OOC: Alt planning - Parallel Campaign / Aftermath of Geroldine's war

  • I will go for a Paladin of Selune as one of May Celine's knights.

  • I will take the numbered Zhent soldier.

B-206. A young, taciturn half elf that is even more closed about any life before his conscription than his days with the Zhentarim, the wind blew him in in the early days of the invasion.
Given his recitence, it is hard to judge what drives him. While free again, he seems to have no intention of heading home. The only thing that is clear on his mind is revenge against the Zhent and those who caused his family to suffer.

  • DrD, KC, we should be good to go with a bugbear & lizardman if you two are still interested in those for the purposes of this plot. If you've decided for non-monstrous races for this one, assuming you and Caoimh are OK with it, we can also roll those PCs in general. Given that we are a private server I don't see the point in restricting races anymore than restricting PRCs or stats. It would be good if we can have a monster starting town ... maybe in the Underdark or in Oscura?

Those who haven't posted/messaged yet, you've still got some time before we begin this one. Note that we do not yet have any Aasimar, any Tieflings, or any Genasai, so any of those could also be interesting.

  • Alright, my main idea's starting to crystallize into playing a Mystran relic- and arcane knowledge hunter (aka Mystic Theurge) from Waterdeep's disgraced house Cade.

Laura Cade, Barton Cade's much younger sister, is keenly interested or let's be frank, downright obsessed with all things arcane. She lacks her older brother's worldly cynicism, and neither does she share much of her cousin Henry's glowing resolve in regards to restoring the house's good name. Laura's a real egghead, having spent the majority of her life to date in and out of various academies in numerous towns, all with her nose firmly stuck in a book. Until, despite her brother's adamant warning, she decided on visiting a war-torn Narfell...

  • For a while there I was split between the aforementioned mercenary and a Spellweaver mage, and I think I've decided my idea for the latter is the better team player with more reason to care about Narfell. I've sent more BG to Flom, but here's what's publicly known before our new characters meet:

The gossip of a new guest lecturer at Spellweaver had only a brief time to flourish before the Zhentarim war began and swept all other rumors aside. It's said a fellowship was created specifically for this Visiting Instructor of Illusion and Mystran Theology, and the occasion was lauded as a return home for one of Narfell's own---though so far as any nosy student could determine, "Jhaelryna Desptyl" appeared among the roster for no graduating class. Professor Desptyl's welcome celebration had been scheduled for the day that Petarch first treated with Geroldine. With wyverns flying overhead and the reverberations of massive teleportation spells stirring the Weave, it's said that not even the new scholar attended. But then, in the weeks before Hive lost his first head by Thalaman's blade, the scurrying murmur of disappointment suggested she might never be seen. The students at her first and only lecture were greeted by an illusion---a simple Major Image spell even---of a blonde woman in shimmering robes with a stern voice that did not accord at all with the illusion's gentle seeming. After the invasion of Norwick and the Keep's disappearance, no more stories of this illusionist emerged.

  • I'm thinking of playing a cleric, for a change, though I am undecided about making it a Siamorphian or a Selûnite.

  • I'm thus far undecided, but looking forwards to seeing the plot from a different angle, for sure. So far I'm leaning slightly towards the dishonoured house Cade, but will happily adjust to others wishes or what works best for the overall composition of the group.

  • To be clear, I am fine if people want to roll a monstrous race in general (including for an alt monster campaign that I would be happy to also run). I am also OK with it for this parallel plot, so long as it's not the whole party.

Lizardmen are neutral and could be part of at least some of the factions mentioned above. For example, a lizardman could be a warrior among the bannermen of one of the Moonreach houses. Or, for example, they could be an escaped Zhentarim slave soldier.

Bugbears are a bit trickier, but could be the 1 or 2 exceptions. They could also be an escaped Zhentarim slave instead. Ostromog hasn't really been involved in the war, but we can talk more about this if you like.

  • I can think up something else if required.

  • @flom

In light of this, please mark me down for the renegade Defender.

    Human | Fighter/Defender class.

  • I've gotten a few requests for monster races, e.g. bugbears and lizardmen. We should be OK with 1 or 2 of these for the parallel, but if the majority or entire party is monstrous races, I'm not sure the party would be a good fit for this one.

The intent is to have the campaign run concurrently to what the Geese have been doing during the war, and then after. The concurrency itself won't be as interesting (to you or more generally plot-wise) if the PCs are from factions not really related to the above list, or not related to NPCs that were more intimately involved in the war.

Something like a genasai, tiefling, aasimar, etc. is fine and in my eyes doesn't count towards this 1 or 2 monstrous race cap, because those types can blend in with and be part of the factions listed above.

If more than 1 or 2 wish to play a monstrous race (e.g. goblins, bugbears, kobolds), or if the party wants to play a monstrous race campaign, I would be fine with doing that instead, or do it in addition to the parallel campaign. That could be quite interesting, and I would tailor a different set of plans for those PCs instead of what I have in store here.

  • proceeds to bombard Flom with some off-the-wall concepts

  • ((I have two ideas bouncing around my head. I'm leaning toward a mercenary who worked with cousin Benny.))

  • I spoke to Flom about possibilities beyond these factions, as I know little about them, having not been around a whole lot during the plot. He agreed to let me play something I've wanted to for a long time instead!

    Draquothoz - (Draq)

An imposing green and red scaled lizardman with piercing yellow eyes. Draq stands 7' in height and weighs close to 300lbs, he has a 4' armored tail swishing behind him as he walks. Some might mistake him as one of the many slave mercenaries of the Zhentarim, but Draq hails from the tribe of lizardfolk in the Eastern Swamps near Peltarch. His reasoning for leaving behind the swamps and his tribe are unknown, but it is not uncommon for lizardfolk to strike out on their own and offer their services out to the highest bidder. Much like his tribesfolk, Draq carries an assortment of weapons - a club, a spear, a glaive and of course his sharp claws and teeth. Unlike most of his tribes warriors, Draq wears a set of fullplate armor and holds a massive tower shield when fighting with his one handed weapons.

He seems well spoken, his voice being soft and pleasant with a soft slurring of his S's, a trait shared by many of his kind. His forked tongue often darts out of his mouth excitedly when he stands ready for battle. He seems most relaxed when in the thick of battle and like all of his kind, he is known to sometimes indulge in feasting on his vanquished enemies. These traits often times make him seem savage or dark in nature. However, on the rare occasion, when this lizardfolk lets his guard down, people can hear him singing quietly to himself while he watches with curiosity as the world and it's people move around him.
