Gladon Rain

Appearance:
Standing slightly above average human height, Gladon Rain has the unassuming frame of a practical militia soldier. His face is solemn, set with a disciplined, watchful expression and framed by unkempt and unstyled hair. He wears sturdy, functional armor suited for guard duty: a padded gambeson beneath reinforced leather and worn metal pieces. Across his chest hangs a leather strap securing a travel-worn scroll case and a small utility belt holding various glass potion vials. Strapped to his back is an iron-tipped spear alongside a broad, unadorned shield marked only by the nicks and scuffs of service.
Known History:
He's a pikeman of little renown from a hamlet near Daggerford. He served on the watch and then as a reserve soldier, as part of the hamlet's militia. He is a bastard, borne to an unwed mother who died during childbirth. He lived with an elderly woman rumored to be a witch. He once lost a fight against a group of boys who had taunted her with a jeering song. Eventually, the elderly woman passed away. After a private funeral he resigned from the militia.
When Daggerford hosted a Shieldmeet tournament, he registered in the amateur lay bracket in arena foot combat. During the festivities, the noble house of Daggerford held public petitions. He petitioned to enter into feudal service to the noble house as a knight. He was declined. During his tourney combat round, the audience mockingly dubbed him "Nettle Knight" after an embarrassing tumble into a stinging nettle bush failed to stop him from trying to continue the fight. He lost. He thought he heard the templar Ruhin Boucheron chastise the louder mockers. When the tourney ended, he hitched a clandestine ride with Ruhin’s caravans heading to the old north of Narfell.
