Laura Cade
-
Laura is a young woman of the sort that turns few heads, short of her toppling a pile of books somewhere in the libraries that seem her natural habitat. Words like 'mousy' or 'bookish' may well spring to mind to describe this obvious creature of academia. She's slight of build and rather short, with soft brown hair typically held back in a practical ponytail. In a face otherwise devoid of remarkable features, a pair of well-worn gold-rimmed glasses frame green-grey eyes that come to life with vivid interest at anything to do with magic.
The holy symbol of Mystra's affixed to Laura's belt, while her left hand sports a signet ring with a crest so worn and faded that it's hard to make out. Her style of dress is typically neat and conservative, minus the thigh-high brown leather boots that she'll sheepishly admit (though only if asked) are her "confidence boots". A satchel with a few scrolls, spellbook, quill and whatever book she's currently reading is a near constant companion slung across a skinny shoulder.
A second companion, albeit an ofttimes stealthy one, is her familiar. Nox is a black cat of curiously shifting size, ranging from teacup kitten to panther, according to whim, convenience and (perhaps) Laura's need. Typically aloof, often mischievous but with a distinctly intelligent gleam in his golden eyes, Nox may not be the type of familiar that will do as he's told - but is nonetheless loving in his own, catty way.
Laura's voice is soft and often hesitant, yet easily enthused when it comes to her fields of interest. When nervous, she'll either say nothing or talk too much, too fast, til awkwardly trailing off. Her accent's hard to place, having been polished through a number of highly esteemed schools and boarding houses throughout her childhood and adolescence. 'Educated' is perhaps the best word to describe it.
She's obviously not a natural at combat and frequently seems on the verge of panic when faced with violence. Yet despite an often clumsy offence and an innate tendency to nearly trip over her own feet, her defensive stance seems well practiced and much of what she lacks, she tries to make up for with magic and sheer determination.
By now, it's known that Laura's come to Moonreach Keep to look for her older brother, Barton Cade - known by a whole other group of adventurers as "Doctor Sleep".
