Locus Operandi: Mysterious Late Night Letter

  • Late one night after finishing her first training session with Aenhever, Lokelani sat finishing up her tea. She hoped teaching Aen to meditate would truly be of help to him. When her tea was finished, she got up to sort through her pack. It helped to see what if anything could use restocking in the morning.

She began to think over what to go over at any possible follow up meditation training with Aen while she combed through her pack. That's when a sealed envelope was slipped under the door to her room, H3.

At the sound of the envelope sliding under her door, surprise was instantly across her face. The fey'e first thought was to check on Hokulanil, but there he was still curled up and fast asleep at the head of her bed. She wondered aloud, "Another edition of Moonreach Gazette already?"

She left sorting her pack until later, and went around to her door to take a closer look. Alas, it was not another and unexpectedly early edition of Florian's delightful publication. Nothing was written on the envelope's exterior, and it was sealed with a peculiar wax seal, half black, half gray.

Out of curiosity Lokelani cast Detect Magic on the envelope in her hands. It sang of Abjuration recently cast upon it, and that seemed safe enough. Protection magic, in theory, shouldn't present a danger. The fey grabbed her dagger, using it as a letter opener. Inside was a single piece of parchment. It was crisp, clean, neat and folded.

Pulling and unfolding the parchment, it was unsigned and read:

    Locus Operandi-

I have information relevant to your investigation into the Selunite murders. Meet me in three nights' time, at midnight, at the foot of the cliffside overlook.

Perhaps belatedly, Lokelani moved to check the hallway for whoever left this mysterious letter under her door. Opening her door, she peered down both ways in the hallway calling out, "Hello??"

Her keen fey eyes, their reflective, verdant spring green eyes seeming to glow in light of a torch opposite her doorway, noticed a singular footprint, humanoid in size. Lokelani was sure it was a male's footprint. It was barely visible amidst the sparse dust on the hallway floor. It was not the size of Aenhever's feet, so it wasn't Operandi's favorite puppy, who had just left Lokelani's room mere minutes before.

It was also set on the ground as though someone crouched to slip the envelope under the door. She called out one more time, once more glancing up and down the hallway, "Hello?"

Twice now there was no reply.

Hearing her faerie dragon familiar stir from the bed, and and wander over to investigate the commotion at the room door, Lokelani allowed herself to ruminate out loud again, "Whoever they were wasn't short, or they'd wouldn't have had to stoop to get this under the door."

Lokelanie went back into her room and closed the door. She retrieved writing supplies and set out to make a copy of the the letter for every member of the Locus Operandi. The fey also added her own paragraph at the end explaining the time, the situation, how she had been tutoring Aen in meditation before the letter arrived and about out the footprint she found outside her door.

Lokelani then had Hokulanil fly around the Keep to deliver a copy of the letter to every member of the Locus Operandi.
