Background:
Adan Whisperwick, unfettered independent mage and possessor of the rare aetherite, has orchestrated an alliance between Ostromog's bugbears, easternly fire giants, and the former Cleimant councillor Olivia Gor. Having promised them rare materials, gold, and magic, they are now set to besiege Moonreach Keep.
May Celine, Astrologer Farian, and members of the Cleimant Council, notably Ava Brokenblade and Jecken Stockley, are preparing the Keep's defense. The pretense of the siege is apparently to rescue Lt. Rixx, a defector who joined Whisperwick's ranks but was recently captured in combat and is now imprisoned at Moonreach Keep.
Meanwhile, the Locus Operandi have been inquiring into Whisperwick's potential ulterior motives. As a result of these inquiries, the Locus has isolated what they believe to be Whisperwick's true target: pristine mercurial quicksilver, a rare magical component, located in a hidden chamber in the crumbled tunnels beneath the Keep. The Locus has made several preparations, most notably the acquisition of a withering sussur bloom, a magical petal which creates a natural zone of anti-magica round itself and, if crushed, creates a wider and more potent zone of anti-magic. The Locus intends to use the sussur bloom against Whisperwick should he attempt to obtain the mercurial quicksilver. That is in addition to the other martial and magical preparations the Locus has made in the room containing the quicksilver.
While the denizens of Moonreach Keep defend against the siege, the Locus Operandi will be prepared in the secret tunnels below, awaiting Whisperwick's attempt on the mercurial quicksilver.
