The Favoured, Chapter I: The Edge of the Map

  • Zorazina, enthused by the goblin moot and the chance to perhaps see the 'Stealer of the Lighting', King Brek, offers up the following half-baked ideas:

"So like, we kill 'n strip some hobgobbers, wear their armour 'n stuff - literally stuff, cause it probably needs paddin' with hay to fit right. Step two is gettin' some kinda cool mask or hood with face coverin' - then we just stand back and keep our eyes 'n ears open! Oh right - scrolls of Tongues for those of us that don't know the lingo would be real handy. Or a ring, but we didn't find that at the Midden Bazaar yet..."

((I will unfortunately miss out for going out of town for a few days, up to a week tops - but I hope to hear all about it afterwards! Zizi'll help prepare the "disguises" as best she can til then))

  • OOC: The top post is once again up-to-date. My plan is to pick up with the goblin moot on the 18th as the goblins, hobgoblins, and bugbears gather. So you have this time to discuss strategies, objectives, etc. including whether and how to attempt to attend yourselves!

Feel free to use the forum for intel gathering and other preparations. If I happen to be in-game this week, some tasks can also be RPed there.

  • @its_a_fire I have family celebrations tomorrow, so my time will be limited if I'm present at all. I should be available on Sunday though!

  • (( Hihi! No time right now to write up a more narrative post, but I do plan to run something Saturday! Hopefully my fellow USians aren't too busy hotdogging at the grill? It's too hot for that!))

  • (( I'm a little overwhelmed lately offline. Nothing bad, I just need to buckle down and check some tasks off. So there won't be planned Favoured plot developments happening this Saturday, but I may be around Saturday or Sunday for PC-initiated minievents and such if I need a break. ))

  • Previously... After the defeat of the necromancer ghoul lord known as Ganzt, the party returned to Norwick with his journal and with the mummified remains of an ancient druid. Later, members of the party learned the password to the Midden Bazaar below the goblin heights, and there they met the hag self-styled as Her Majesty. It seems while they were fighting the ghoul lord, Ombretta and Sophie had a brief encounter in the bazaar.

Back home in Norwick, tensions have been high since the undead attack. Now it's been announced that Jimmy from Kront will stand trial. Like the attempted hanging, the trial promises to reveal fractures in Norwick's spirit.

((I will have a slightly firmer end time this Saturday because I have concert tickets for the evening, but there should be plenty of time for the trial and any preparations and follow-up that the party chooses.))

  • Previously... the gang found The Artificer and learned her scheme for vengeance against The Divine Soul and the Zhentarim.

Not long after, four undead launched an attack on the town---seemingly targeted. Two of the creatures, who were Doom Guides of Kelemvor in life, attacked the companions at the Mirthful Cup fire. Two more entered the scout tower and chased an unprepared Captain Lamar into the catacombs below town hall. On one of the bodies they found a map of the Doom Guides' final orders in life, to seek out the necromancer responsible for the past incident at the lake. Based on the knights' fate, the map may help the party locate the same.

The party now has information that the enemy overlooked. How will they choose to use it?

((We'll continue this Saturday, whether to gather intel or dive in head first I'll leave up to you!))

  • By agreement with the new temple of Kelemvor, they've divided the effort to find the two Zhentarim presences in the woods. The Doom Guides search for where the undead retreated after the confrontation at the lake, while the party agreed to investigate the "her" that the eerie entity demanded.

The party later learned that The Artificer sheltered with the goblin alchemist for a time and that she's searching for rare and disparate resources. The secretive Artificer didn't reveal the complete list to Vermetius, and Norwick's own Alchemist was dismissive of the alchemical properties of the components the party retrieved.

Meanwhile in town, several worrying developments have come to light, and wary of which individuals to trust, Miv may have a plan for better inter-party communication...

OOC: These leads and more are available this Saturday! I hope to see you there.

  • Through one means or another, word is given to Miv and the rest of the new group that Sebastian will try to arrange with his superiors that the group can speak with the prisoner.

(Can be done IG, if this is the way we are proceeding. I should be home from work at the latest.. 1:30-2pm EST today. Maybe a bit sooner. If we are planning on this today.)

  • OOC: To confirm, this Saturday will be the usual time, 1PM EST. Unless otherwise stated, Saturdays 1-5 is the time that I have blocked out for happenings tied directly to the Favoured plot. If there's ever a need to start early or switch days, we'll discuss that here on the forum.

  • @DrDreadLock A note is left for Sebastian Rusk at his quarters - either left upon his desk, if he has one at the Norwick Guard offices, or gently pinned at his usual guard post / patrol route.

    ☆ ☆ ☆

    "Dear Mr. Rusk,

I have questions for the boy Jimmy from Kront, as I am sure you and our friends do too.

Could you perhaps arrange for our meeting with him, in at his jail cell?

P.S. I asked the baker for a fresh batch of lemon tarts, and left one for you at the guard offices.

    -- Mivilith."

  • Jimmy from Kront, the alleged Zhentarim member and former captive of Aeline Norwick, sits in the Norwick jail and awaits a decision. Yet it's the town that seems on edge---could more of the invaders remain, hiding in the woods? If so, what are they plotting?

Meanwhile, a new group of adventurers have made friends despite their differences. In their travels together and apart, they've learned many wonderful, curious, and disturbing things about life in Norwick and the Rawlinswood. Some of these findings may prove useful in navigating the days ahead and the various factional divides.

OOC: After listening to people's conversations the last couple of days, a talk with ol' Jimmy is where I'll plan to pick things up this weekend for the continuing favoured campaign segment. That said, there are no ticking clocks in game except for the bodega raven, so feel free to form and propose your own plans. Hope to see you Saturday!
