DM Witchwood NPCs

  • A thread for my own assorted antagonists and enablers. General new Norwick NPCs, such as town officials, faction members and merchants, can be found in the other thread.

  • Harmony Ashfoot

Status: Alive, possibly hiding behind you right now.

Description: With pink skin and red hair, this wild eladrin exudes playful, summery vibes at most times. Like the manner of a child on holiday. In social gatherings she's loud, cheerful, and easily distracted, but neither is she shy with her opinions and reprobation.

Her visible equipment is a mishmashed collection. Her cloak and armor have been patched many times with fabric of clashing colors and patterns. Her belt holds a quiver of fine arrows, but also a pair of scissors, a coin and ring on a string, the body of an old doll, and other idle treasures.

An agile and knowledgeable wood-walker, Harmony is surprisingly quiet when she wants to be. For those who know local lore, her wolf's fang necklace marks membership among the region's elite rangers.

Public Knowledge: Harmony operates out of the Rawlinswood near Norwick. She's friends with the scout Sable, though apparently disliked by Sable's other close friend, Lark. Harmony has a low regard for the druids of Quercatha Terr and is seemingly at odds with their methods and philosophy despite sharing a love for the woods.

Harmony sees and hears much that happens in the Rawlinswood, and she's known to trade such information. Her rubric for the value of a trade is difficult to guess. She's passed up valuable scrolls but taken a single coin with glee.

  • Lark & Sable

    Status: Alive and active.

Description: Lark is a young Nar man with dark hair, tall, usually seen in his Militia uniform. He tries to maintain a serious, hardnosed impression, though he's ultimately more forgiving than many guards. Sable is a young Nar woman with pale hair so blonde it's nearly an early gray. Of average height and an athletic build, like her friend she's often seen in her Scout uniform. She also tends toward seriousness, though that air collapses when she's had a few too many drinks at the Mirthful Cup.

Public Knowledge: Lark and Sable are a boy and girl who are friends but are adamantly not boyfriend and girlfriend. Any Norwickian would know that they've been close since childhood. Like many adventurous children, they had many adventures at the edge of safety, like daring one another to enter the Old Norwick ruins while they were still haunted. Both enlisted shortly before the Devastation and participated in Norwick's liberation.

  • Jimmy from Kront

Status: Imprisoned in Norwick, in isolation

Description: A human man, age 20. Dusty brown hair, and generally nondescript. While imprisoned at least, Jimmy seems quite directionless and hopeless, though he's neither resigned to his fate yet nor eager to do the work to improve it.

Public Knowledge: Jimmy grew up in Kront, but in his late teens, he murdered a man over a card game. He joined up with the Zhentarim, working as a cook for Geroldine's regiment, and he was part of their number that occupied the town. Shortly before the allied Peltarch and Norwick forces liberated the town, Jimmy fled into the woods on his own. He managed to hide several months, claiming to have scared off goblins and other threats by wearing cobbled-together Zhentarim armor. He was found and captured by Aeline Norwick and brought before the town at the festival celebrating the Temple of Kelemvor's victory.

His charges, guilt, and punishment remain undecided.

  • "The Artificer" / "The Woman in Black" / Sophie de Wittigis

    alt text

    Status: Alive, whereabouts unknown.

Description: A serious, practical woman with the unintentional glower of a Lanceboard master. Billowing jet black hair frames a pale face. By human standards, she may be in her early thirties, but by the shape of her ears and aquiline features, one suspects she possesses elven or fey ancestry though she carries none of the light and joy that typically marks that heritage.

Sophie wears black and silver armor inspired by elven designs to afford arcane spellcasting but without that culture's floral sense of ornamentation. She carries a well-made rapier and several daggers, but the magically-inclined will easily spot her true weapons: a surplus of arcane devices. Each a uniquely ingenious fabrication from what must have been spare or surplus parts.

Public Knowledge: According to Jimmy, the woman code-named "The Artificer" was member of the Zhentarim and considered dangerous by their officers. Consequently she was kept in chains, often tied to "The Divine Soul." After the war, she has operated in the Rawlinswood, and her last confirmed location was hiding out with the goblin alchemist, Vermetius, who claims the goblin shamans chased her out. The worg druid Harek claims that that The Artificer used a magical knife to sever his connection to his god, Malar.

When the party found her at the League of Adventurers's castle in the southern Giantspires, Sophie was wary of them and ready to run if their threats escalated. She denied ever having been Zhentarim herself. When the adventurers revealed that her knife had succeeded, she revealed that it's true purpose is to sever the connection of The Divine Soul, Ombretta Piccolo, so that Sophie could enact vengeance on the Zhentarim for years of captivity. She also revealed that the prototype knife broke in a single usage, but she's determined to make a stronger version. Sophie further revealed a low opinion of the divine and thus an equally meager concern for the wider ramifications of her invention.

"The Divine Soul" / Ombretta Piccolo

    Status: Alive, specifics unknown.

    Description: ???

According to Jimmy, she's so pretty that the world seems to stop when you see her.

Public Knowledge: Jimmy claims the woman codenamed "The Divine Soul" is some manner of necromancer and priestess of Bane. A ranking member of the Zhentarim, rumors suggested some rivalry or rift with Geroldine. She may have an undead ally/servant of unknown nature, who is looking for a "her" in the Rawlinswood.

According to her former captive Sophie de Wittigis, Ombretta cannot die by normal means owing to her status as the Black Hand's favoured. This complication was the impetus for Sophie's search for a means to sever divine connections.
