Background:
Adan Whisperwick operates from a hidden tower within a pocket dimension the door to which is tucked away somewhere secret in the Province of Moonreach. This independent mage is a collector of rare artifacts and a master of potent transmutation magic. He is utterly unfazed by his status as a public enemy; in fact, he is known to taunt his adversaries, actively inviting them to challenge him. His reach is vast and indiscriminate, maintaining a volatile network of allies and enemies across all walks of life. Among that list of enemies is the Calderan Lord Kzagoth, as well as the Locus Operandi, a group of adventurers who call Moonreach Keep their home.
His practice is that of transmutation and evocation, with a focus on the former. To that end, he has conducted experiments on the many non-human denizens of Moonreach, turning the goblins that dwell in Emberhold into half-fiendish planetouched ones. Such secret experiments were conducted in secret using the fiendish scales of Kzagoth. He is known to be able to clone himself. He is likewise is the current possessor of the coalesced aether, as well as a collector of mercurial quicksilver. So much does he desire such reagants for his transmutation experiments that he once orchestrated a siege of Moonreach Keep in an effort to obtain the pure quicksilver that was once held there. Such are but a few facts concerning his practice of transmutation magic.
During his operations in the Province of Moonreach, he has attracted the attention of the Locus Operandi, who have decided to oppose him on various occasions. They first met the man in their incursions to Emberhold, that burning edifice buried deep in the earth far beneath the Caldera Manor, since revealed to be the burning remains of a former Aureate enclave's temple. Since then, the Locus has acquired knowledge of the location of his hidden tower in that region, along with a method of subtle entry: a spool of planar thread, which can be used to stitch a conjured tunnel into the pocket plane without detection. This, they have acquired from one of Whisperwick's former captives as well as in their dealings with fey and fey artefacts.
Thus, in the latest efforts beneath the calligraphy of the sky, does the Locus Operandi intend to stage a raid on his tower and once and for all put an end to his malign influence over the region and his wicked experiments over the non-human creatures of Moonreach.
